For relocating luxury buyers with school-age children, the school decision drives the neighborhood decision, which drives the house decision. This is the honest order of operations, and getting it wrong is expensive.
Charlotte's private-school market is defined by four institutions. Each has a distinct personality, location, and admissions posture. Understanding them is a prerequisite to a serious property search.
Charlotte Country Day
Founded: 1941. Enrollment: ~1,750 across all divisions. Campus: ~110 acres on Cannon Boulevard, in the SouthPark area.
Charlotte's oldest independent school and the closest to the historical Old Charlotte social fabric. Academically rigorous with a strong college placement record. Athletic and arts programs are deep. Coeducational, non-denominational.
Culture: Traditional, competitive, and closely tied to Charlotte's legacy families. High demand at kindergarten and 6th-grade entry points.
Best-fit neighborhoods: Foxcroft, Eastover, SouthPark, Myers Park.
Charlotte Latin School
Founded: 1970. Enrollment: ~1,450. Campus: ~127 acres in south Charlotte, off Providence Road.
Consistently top-rated academically. Strong classical liberal arts orientation with rigorous humanities and mathematics programs. Coeducational, non-denominational.
Culture: Intellectually intense, strong parent community, historically the school of choice for many finance and legal-industry families.
Best-fit neighborhoods: Eastover, Foxcroft, Providence Plantation, Myers Park.
Providence Day School
Founded: 1970. Enrollment: ~1,700. Campus: ~40 acres off Sardis Road in southeast Charlotte.
Known for a strong balance of academic rigor and student well-being. Excellent college placement. Modern, innovation-oriented curriculum. Coeducational, non-denominational.
Culture: Slightly less traditional than Country Day or Latin, with a reputation for a healthier work-life balance. Strong global-studies and STEM emphasis.
Best-fit neighborhoods: Providence Plantation, Ballantyne, Foxcroft, Eastover.
Charlotte Christian School
Founded: 1950. Enrollment: ~1,100. Campus: ~54 acres on Sardis Road.
Academically strong, explicitly Christian in mission. Coeducational, K–12. Highly competitive academics with a values-based framework.
Culture: Faith-forward. Strong athletics and arts. Preferred by families who want faith integrated with rigorous academics.
Best-fit neighborhoods: Providence Plantation, Ballantyne, southeast Charlotte generally.

For relocating families, begin school applications before beginning the property search. A property purchase committed to a specific neighborhood is a poor position from which to negotiate a waitlist.
Tuition
At the top four schools, expect tuition in the range of $30,000–$36,000/year for lower school, rising to $35,000–$42,000/year for upper school. Additional fees (books, technology, athletic teams, transportation) typically add $2,000–$5,000/year. Financial aid is available but rarely relevant at this buyer tier.
Multi-child families should budget $100,000–$160,000/year in tuition alone across a three-child household.

The Bottom Line for Luxury Buyers
The school decision precedes the house decision. Once the school is chosen, the neighborhood shortlist narrows to two or three viable options — and the property search becomes tractable. Buyers who reverse this order routinely end up with a beautiful house in the wrong feeder pattern and spend the next decade driving.
